Harmes back in action

So it wasn’t the most splendid performance she’s ever given, but you have to hand it to the Netherlands’ Suzanne Harmes for looking so decent less than a year after giving birth to son Lugano.

Suzanne Harmes, 2008 European Championships Team Finals, Balance Beam:

Harmes, the bronze medalist on floor at the 2005 World Championships, is vying with Verona van der Leur and Lichelle Wong for her country’s one berth to the Olympics. Van der Leur would be my pick to actually get the nod, but one can’t help but think that 22-year-old Harmes, like Oksana Chusovitina, could be an asset to her country’s team for years to come.

From an interview with International Gymnast Magazine:

“I still really loved the sport, so when I went back to the gym I wasn’t bothered where it would lead,” said Harmes, who gave birth to son Lugano last May 24. “I just wanted to try gymnastics again. I am really glad that it all went so easily. Qualifying for Europeans wasn’t a problem, and it made me really happy. I’m getting a lot of positive responses from other gymnasts in the Netherlands, that they like the fact that I’m back in the game so quickly.”
