Geoff Taucer’s banned skill

Jeremy Waters is a gymnast and coach who lives in North Carolina and goes by the name of Geoff Taucer. According to his website, Taucer competed up to level 10, where his strengths were floor and vault.

He’s the only person I’ve ever seen do a full-twisting Thomas (a back one-and-three quarters somersault laid out with two-and-a half twists.)

I recently opined that the Thomas as it is should be a banned skill. Numerous people have been knocked out doing it, and it appears the move might have had something to do with the career-ending injury Romanian Marian Dragulescu now faces.

Geoff Taucer’s full-twisting Thomas:

Unlike the regular version, this skill is banned. And for good reason. Nonetheless, it’s amazing. Having seen it done successfully once, I’m content to never want to see it done on a hard surface.

Awesome skill but I agree I don’t want to see it again. I hope his training this year goes well though. Here are a couple of cool MAG vids I’ve run into on YT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXBsPEQcPfo&NR=1 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkT_Bs_L1jA.

Sorry, on that second link the period at the end of the sentence is throwing it off.

dude: That thing is so…gymnastical. How can you ban it?

Haha, wow, just stumbled accross this post.

I’m flattered by the recognition 😀

I actually have not done it since this filming; my original intention was just to do it so I could say I’d done it (and get it on film). I have done it a grand total of seven times on the competition floor (always with a 4-inch mat), and may well never do it again.

Anyway, I’m training to return to competition next season as an elite, and I hope to compete floor, vault and rings. Wish me luck!
