The foxtrot agrees with Shawn Johnson, don’t you think? If she does return to elite gymnastics, it will be interesting to see the effect the ballroom training has had on her. It’s hard to imagine it being anything but positive.

It should be interesting to see which latin dance she does next (The contestants switch styles, either Latin or Standard). If she gets the rumba (which I hope she doesn’t, she needs more time), it’s going to be her hardest dance of the season.

Shawn should be getting the Lindy Hop next week. That should be a great dance for her since Mark can throw in some gymnastics skills, or her since lifts are allowed, and she doesn’t have to be shy about shaking her hips.

I keep forgetting about the “new” dances as they aren’t Ballroom dances. I’m a lindy hopper myself and it annoys me to no end about lifts… Lifts are rarely used in lindy…
And Lindy doesn’t have any hip shaking…. only swivels.

I know that’s why I said she doesn’t have to be shy about shaking her hips since she doesn’t have to shake her hips. It sounds like the show is allowing basic lifts, much like swing dancing lifts.
I think the biggest thing people forget is that DWTS is not a ballroom dance show, most of the dances are, but they incorporate other couple dances as well.

Shawn’s Salsa was fun, fun, fun and I am eager to see her Lindy Hop. I just hope they don’t overdo it on the acrobatics and lifts. Just because Shawn can do that stuff doesn’t mean the judges are going to be happy about seeing a lot of it.

Um, Jen it’ is a ballroom show. They only started adding these other social dances in season 7. Its one thing that annoys me, even though I do swing dancing. There are a couple ballroom dances that aren’t done that I wish they’d do like Bolero.
There are no lifts in Swing Dancing, they’re called Ariels, as the follow is continually moving where as in lifts the follow is stationary.

Katrina the show is not specifically a ballroom show. It started out as one but with fading interest in the last few years they have dropped the specifically ballroom part and are adding more entertaining dances like the Salsa, Jive, and others.
I don’t know the terms of Swing Dancing, I was merely going off what they said on the show when they announced that lifts would be allowed for the Lindy Hop. The kind of lifts I was talking about are in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAAAV7BB1H , if they are called ariels then thank you for telling me what they are called.
On another note, I hope Shawn can pull through after the stalker thing. She did an amazing job of covering it on the Tuesday show but I just hope it won’t keep her from having fun.
