Rick at Gymnastics Coaching is basically liveblogging the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships being hosted by Stanford this weekend.
The news from qualifications: Oklahoma is leading defending NCAA Champion Penn State by 0.2 (a very close margin in men’s gymnastics after the qualifying round.) Host and favorite Stanford has yet to compete.
Penn’s Casey Sandy, a transplanted Canadian, leads the all-around competition at this point.
Jonathan Horton, #4 at World’s 2007, did not compete all-around, after all. His rep is to hit big. And to miss big. That he did tonight. Horton has the top score on Rings and Parallel Bars, so far. But he rolled out of his Handspring double front vault. Fell twice on Horizontal Bar.
